Zubaz are back! by Corbet

Seriously, with hipsters rocking fanny packs, wolf t-shirts, skinny jeans and frogskins, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if I see a hipster bike past me this spring on a 10 speed rocking some Zubaz. Believe it… one of the late ’80s – early ’90s most reviled fashion fads is back. I would have preferred a return of the half-hoop shoe, half-light brite LA Gear‘s, but Zubaz will do.

Most famous for a brief stint as officially licensed NFL gear and being the favourite pants of the Legion of Doom, Zubaz were started in the Midwestern US in the late ’80s. Originally intended for gym monkeys who needed maximum crotch room and no doubt inspired by MC Hammer, the distinct Zubaz pattern became a beacon for low-enders everywhere. And just like herpes, they have returned.

If you want, you can buy your Zubaz straight from the source at Zubaz.com. But before you go ahead and decide to ruin somebody’s Christmas, watch this Zubaz fashion show.

Charlie Murphy teams up with Michael Jordan? by Corbet

Eddie Murphy‘s equally hilarious little brother is back! Charlie Murphy is the star of the latest Air Jordan viral marketing campaign, and fans of his comedic stylings will not be disappointed. Charlie plays Leroy Smith… the ballplayer who took MJ’s spot on his high school varsity basketball team. Leroy now claims that he was the “world’s most influential influence on Michael Jordan ever”. Check out the video below to check out Leroy’s DVD, which is sure to “motevize” you to unthinkable success.

All the Nike haters have to admit the Swoosh has some of the most creative and influential marketing ideas of all-time. Mars Blackmon, The Fun Police, Lil’ Penny, Bo Knows, The Lebron’s, Barkley vs. Godzilla, and the Nike Freestyle series (basketball, soccer and skateboarding). Legendary.

Be sure to check out all the other videos, wallpapers and other goodies that Leroy is pimpin’ over at GetYourBasketballOn.com.

The basketball geniuses over at Free Darko are at it again. Not only did they craft the greatest NBA book I have ever had the pleasure to read, they continue to add amazing t-shirts to their Imperial Outlet.

These Kobe-Lebron MVP debate shirts are available for pre-order, and FD says they will have them shipped by the start of Round 1 of the playoffs. Not only are these shirts a great way to show your MVP allegiance, they also showcase your ability to retain grade 5 math lessons.

For more info on who to choose for MVP, check out these two sites:

Shepard Fairey and Lance Armstrong team up to fight Cancer by Number Zero

Obey founder Shepard Fairey and cyclist/Superhero Lance Armstrong teamed for an art show called “Stages” earlier this month in support of Arstrong’s ‘Livestrong’ charity. The event took place in Hollywood and attracted a wide variety of people from a-list celebs to artists to average joe’s looking to pitch in. When asked about the project, Fairey said:

“Cancer has affected my life like it has millions of others. Both my mom’s sisters died of breast cancer and my mom underwent a double preventative mastectomy because of her genetic predisposition to breast cancer. A good friend of mine, Justin Van Hoy is about to have a bone marrow transplant because of his Leukemia. When Lance Armstrong asked me to participate in his “Stages” art project, and create a mural for the side of the Montalban Theater in Hollywood, I was honored and glad to help the cause.”

Very cool stuff. Check out Lance’s foundation at www.livestrong.org and follow his comeback on Twitter.

T of the Month – Raise It Up For Ma Dukes by Number Zero

Even though it’s over half way to April, we present to you the March T-shirt of the month. This month’s T comes to us from one of our favorite record labels, Stones Throw Records. The design itself is pretty basic, but it’s cool nonetheless to shout out to the mother of one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time.

In case you missed out like I did, Shepard Fairey released a limited edition Dilla print at the end of February. All 400 of the prints sold out in 8 minutes. Proceeds from the posters were donated to Maureen Yancey (aka Ma Dukes), mother of J Dilla, to aid her in her battle against Lupus, the same disease that claimed her son’s life.

All proceeds from the Ma Dukes shirts will also go to Mrs. Yancey. So here’s your opportunity to give something back to the Yancey family for the years of listening enjoyment you got from Dilla’s music. At the same time, you get a pretty stylish shirt.

If you’re looking to cop one of those Dilla prints, head over to Ebay, but they aint gonna be cheap.

This is the boombox you’ve been looking for, young Padwan. I don’t have any details on this gorgeous gadget, but I do know that the Battle of Hoth would have been a lot fresher if these bad boys were blasting some Imperial beats. Check out more pics of the AT-AT boombox at Zen77990.

Probably the greatest Star Wars gadget since this.

T of the Month – Money Walk$ by Corbet

Rhymin’ & Stealin’ has a deep, smoldering love for great t-shirts. Our love knows no bounds, so we decided to spread it with all.

This is the first in a monthly series that is dedicated to keeping our readers looking so fresh and so clean clean.

Jordan Brand – Money Walk$ ($30)

The Jordan Brand, which first seperated from Nike branding after the release of the Jordan XIII in 1997, has been pumping out Jumpman merchandise with the release of every new shoe and colorway for over 10 years. While I have really dug many of the kicks produced during that time, I always found the gear to be slightly uninspired. Many of the key designs made the gear extensions of the shoes, and I’m not really the type who likes to rock the same colors/patterns head to toe

The Jordan Brand got it all right with the “Money Walk$” t. Done up in classic Bulls colors, this shirt has the phrase “Money Walk$” on the front and a silhouette of 23 walking off the court on the back. Simple design, great result. I also love how they incorporated one of MJ’s greatest nicknames into the design.

Head over to pickyourshoes.com to pick up one of these bad boys. Your closet will thank you. And remember that Jordan Brand t’s usually run big, so order a size smaller than you would wear normally.
