While Kobe is still taking heat for his ridiculous all-white pilgrim photo spread from a few weeks back, he has also kicked his game up to Herculean levels as the Lake Show continues to plow through the Western Conference. KB24′s evisceration of Utah (and now Phoenix) did not go unnoticed by YouTube maestro Renhigotrare, who blended Kobe’s playoff domination with SFX from God of War 3. As a Lakers super-fan and a lover of video games, this pretty much blew my mind.
Now let’s all get ready for another Lakers-Celtics Finals.

This has to be one of the best NBA coaching sound-bites in recent memory. During last nights Game 1 in the Cavs – Celtics series, Mo Williams threw down a nasty fast break dunk on Paul Pierce. I wasn’t aware that Mo could even jam, but the dunk itself was eclipsed by his coach’s post game reaction. When asked about the play, Mike Brown completely lost his marbles. Classic.

Check out this video from Friday’s playoff game between the Caps and the Habs. Capitals forward Eric Belanger takes a stick in the face from Montreal’s Marc-Andre Bergeron. Belanger heads to the bench, pulls out his own front tooth, then returns to the ice. Belanger reportedly lost 8 teeth on the play and received an emergency root canal between periods. In spite of all this, he still managed to play the entire game. Now that is tough!
Speaking of hockey, be sure to head over to tsn.ca and vote for the NHL play of the year. Some pretty incredible plays in there, but I think Stamkos is going to run away with it.

2009 seems destined to be the year of the King, as Lebron has been pulling out all the stops. Last night was just another example of his greatness, with LBJ somehow resurrecting his Cavs after Hedo Turkoglu had seemingly stuck a knife in Cleveland’s heart. A 2-0 hole would have been tough for even the Lebron’s to climb out of, so these end of game heroics are even more special. Lebron’s three will be one of his greatest career highlights, similar to MJ beating Craig Ehlo and the Cavs back in ’89. Friggin’ unbelieveable.
Lebron’s shot also made Nike happy, as it kept their dream Kobe v Lebron final on track. They’ve been pimping the 24 v 23 in a new set of commercials, and I must say, Most Valuable Puppets is great marketing. I pray for Lakers v Cavs every night before I go to sleep, and so does Phil Knight.
Playoffs baby!

[Click image above to watch a replay of the fight - FREE]
Saturday night, Manny Pacquiao laid claim to the title of one of the greatest boxers of all-time with his absolute destruction of the pride of Manchester, Ricky Hatton. From the opening bell, it was evident that Hatton was going to be in big trouble as he kept charging in on Pac and would get cracked hard for his troubles. Pac counter-punched Hatton perfectly, culminating in two 1st round knockdowns. In the 2nd, Pacman let loose and connected with one of the most devastating punches ever. As I was watching I knew the fight was over the second glove hit chin. One of the best power punches I have ever seen, and even more impressive because it came from the man that many critics said would lose his power as he continued to move up in weight.
Pac pulled in a reported $12 million for his troubles and now the fight of the century appears to be on the horizon: Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. This fight would be absolutely epic and the winner would cement his place among the hall of legends. As a huge boxing fan, I pray this fight happens and that all sides agree that this is the fight to top all other fights.
Until then, the richest man in the Philipines is the pound-for-pound king. Does Mayweather have the cajoones to put his perfect record on the line? Stay tuned.
In celebration of the Pac-man’s victory, we rounded up some of his best work outside the ring.

Last night, Rudy Gay threw down this impressive windmill as his Memphis Grizzlies were beating up on a deflated Phoenix Suns team. To rub a little salt in the wound, Rudy topped it off with former teammate (and current Sun) Stromile Swift’s ridiculous ”wings” calling card. Nice. I guess Stro should be happy that Rudy didn’t give him the Chris Bosh treatment.
I have always hated how Stromile would celebrate every worthwhile contribution he ever made on the hard court with that goofy gesture. Maybe if he spent more time working on basketball fundamentals, he wouldn’t be the 21st century’s 2nd biggest waste of a #2 overall draft pick, behind only the legendary Darko Milicic. Even Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson think Stromile’s celebrations are a little much. To top it off, Stromile has been busting that lame move out since 1998!
And good to see PHX finish up the season with some pride. Nothing says heart like a 17 point loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Check out the footage from Kid Crosby’s third career fight, which happened a couple nights back. Keith Ballard subs Evgeni Malkin, knows someone will be coming for him, sees that it is 87 and then whips off his gloves faster than Michael Jackson at a petting zoo. I don’t think Crosby lands any substantial punches, but he does absorb a few. I will say this, he does give a better effort than Gretzky did when he fought.
By the way, that was a great hit on Malkin.

With all the publicity Lebron has been getting for his “60 Minutes” appearance and his non-challant, under-handed half court shot, I thought it was only fitting that the league’s oldest rookie, Robert Parrish, I mean Greg Oden, got his props too. Not bad for a living fossil.
Everybody is loving these trick shots lately. Even Jimmy Kimmel is hitting half court shots.

The Blue Jackets and the Blues played a home and home this past weekend and TJ Oshie had Rick Nash‘s number both nights.
On Saturday, Oshie put a beating on Nash that would make Vince Shlomi proud, slamming him into the boards hard after Nash cleared the puck out of the corner.
Nash apparently wasn’t impressed and when the two teams met again on Sunday, Nash was looking to get even. Unfortunately for him, Oshie, who is 3 inches shorter and 40 pounds lighter, saw him coming, dropped the puck and laid Nash out again.
Columbus ended up with a power-play after a bogus call from the ref. But, all in all it was a pretty good weekend for the rook, blowing up the superstar twice as St Louis went on to win both games.

The Great 8 is the first player to reach 50 goals this year after scoring a beauty against the lowly Lightning last night. He also became the first player in Caps history to score 50 goals in 3 consecutive seasons.
Choosing to celebrate in true Ovechkin fashion, he dropped his stick to the ice and hovered his hands above it, as if trying to warm them up. When asked about Don Cherry’s reaction to the goal, as Cherry has been critical of his emphatic celebrations, Oveckin replied:
“Oh yeah, he’s gonna be pissed. I love it… I don’t care about Cherry, like, I don’t care if somebody say, like, stupid things”
Ovechkin is classic.

I was watching this game last night, and as soon as Richardson started to slow down to prep for takeoff you could see Lebron swooping in for the kill. How many easy layups/dunks has Lebron erased this year?
This also came at a pivotal point in the game, with PHX down two in the 4th. Cavs took over after this play.
The Suns are finished. I love Nash, but the Suns almost deserve to be one of the biggest disappointments ever due to their stupid and cheap owner trading away all their draft picks over the years. You don’t think this team could use Rajon Rondo and Luol Deng? Suckers.
Lebron is the truth.

Here’s a quote from Blazer teammate and fellow Spaniard, Sergio Rodriguez:
“He couldn’t breathe, and that scared himself, but he was OK,” Rodriguez said.
Now I’m not saying Ariza’s foul wasn’t reckless and unnecessary. It clearly was. But did they really have to put Fernandez in a neck brace and give every fan in attendance (and viewer at home) the impression that he had a neck/spinal injury?
Word out of Blazer Nation is that Rudy has a bruised chest/side and that when he arrived at Blazers practice he asked coach Nate McMillan when he could play. Must be really hurt.
Judging from his reaction while he’s down after the foul (looks like he’s grasping for air), Sergio’s quote that he was out of breath and the fact that his injury amounts to a bruise and that he will be playing by the end of the week, I have a feeling Rudy might not be the toughest guy on the planet. He has a bruise and got the wind knocked out of him.
Yet he needed a neck brace.
Can’t really blame him. His countrymen have mastered the art of this.
Blazer Fan, talk all you want about how big Tuesday’s victory was. How it could give you the momentum to stun 24 and the Lake Show in the playoffs. Or how Greg Oden is going to revolutionize the league. And then, remember this…

So the NBA finally decided to listen to Bill Simmons and implement a game of horse during All-Star Weekend. Never mind the fact that they sold out and renamed it G-E-I-C-O, it should be an entertaining event (and will be infinitely better than the stupid Skills Challenge). However, the NBA really screwed up when picking the contestants. Kevin Love might be the best trick-shot maker this side of Harlem and he won’t be competing. Check his insane highlights (never mind the cracked out announcer, dude needs to chill):
Behind the back 3? Kick shot 3? What? How about full court shots:
Maybe he declined an NBA invite because Stern and his band of merry tards forgot to add him to the Rook V Soph roster, even though he is one of the best rookies in the league and will probably finish the season averaging a double-double. Or maybe they didn’t invite him because no one else would stand a chance.
Except for ‘Sheed.
